Makayla Friery earned her BFA in Interior Design from the CIDA-accredited program at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Known as "Mak" among her peers, she is a passionate and driven designer committed to refining her skills and expertise. As a lead interior designer, she brings a keen eye for detail, strong organizational abilities, and a strategic approach to managing the interiors aspect of projects, ensuring that design intent is thoughtfully executed from concept to completion.
She works closely with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate interiors with overall design and functional goals. Mak believes that strong collaboration and coordination lead to better solutions and are key to navigating project challenges.
Currently focused on K-12 design, Mak prioritizes flexible, adaptable spaces that meet the needs of both students and teachers. Her designs are informed by client feedback, ensuring the spaces align with functional requirements and aesthetic preferences. She also strives to create projects that reflect the unique identity of the town and community. For example, in a town shaped by the Susquehanna River, she drew inspiration from the river’s presence by incorporating forms, shapes, wayfinding, and finishes that connect the space to its surroundings and honor its history.
